Our systems have redundancies and protections to keep you safe regardless the weather

There’s not a lot we can do to prevent power outages and lightning strikes, but we take a range of precautions in the first place to limit the downtime of your life safety and asset protection systems should they lose power. It’s all about reducing risk, and this is how we do it:

  • Failure points: A power surge is not necessarily a product of a direct lightning strike. We have features on panels that act as a circuit breaker on any sort of system. Designated points of failure will blow first and fast enough to prevent a power surge from escalating. Though these features exist in the panel, additional surge protection is a common addition by customers who need further protection from system downtime.
  • System layout: Underground wiring acts as a lightning conduit of sorts, so we often go wireless or wire buildings on a complex individually or install fiber optic cabling between structures to limit electrical surges, so if one building’s system goes out, the rest of the network retains its integrity.
  • Alerts: If you lose monitoring services, you will know onsite from beeps and other alerts. The monitoring station will know immediately and will provide additional notifications to you and to the authories, depending on the circumstance. Depending on what component is damaged, a new communicator can be installed within a day.
  • Batteries: The majority of our systems have battery backup, some of which are mandated by code, such as fire alarms. Those typically have substantial battery backup systems, as do access control features. We design our systems so they are functional even with power down. Being code experts, we will always meet these operational requirements, and prolonged battery backup options are available also.
  • Generators: If you have an onsite generator, we can make sure life safety or asset protection systems transfer smoothly to generator backup to prevent a prolonged outage.
  • Inspections: All of our regular inspections include the testing of backup batteries and replacement services should any have lost juice.

In East Tennessee, power outages typically only last a few hours, with obvious exceptions such as tornadoes or blizzards. Our preventative measures, redundancies and backup systems provide an uninterrupted source of power to ensure continued operation of the life safety and asset protection systems that protect your employees and property.

As always we consult with customers ahead of time to determine any specific needs for particular alarm or security systems.
